Ein weiterer Einsatztag mit der Air Zermatt führte mich mitten hinein in die alpine Luftlogistik des Wallis. Mit höchster Präzision wurden Berghütten, Baustellen und schwer zugängliche Orte zuverlässig aus der Luft versorgt. Meine Aufnahmen zeigen das Zusammenspiel von Pilot und Flughelfer die konzentrierte Arbeit im anspruchsvollen Gelände sowie die besondere Dynamik dieser Einsätze vor eindrucksvoller Bergkulisse.

Another day with Air Zermatt took me into the heart of alpine air logistics in Valais. With the highest level of precision, mountain huts, construction sites and remote locations were supplied reliably by helicopter. The images capture the close coordination between pilot and flight assistant, the focused work in demanding terrain and the unique dynamics of these operations against the impressive backdrop of the Swiss Alps.

Auch dieses Mal durfte ich die Air Zermatt bei regionalen Versorgungsflügen fotografisch begleiten. Diese Einsätze sind ein wichtiger Bestandteil der alpinen Logistik und versorgen Berghütten, Baustellen und abgelegene Einsatzorte zuverlässig aus der Luft. Entstanden sind authentische Aufnahmen, die den Präzisionsflug, die enge Zusammenarbeit der Crew und die beeindruckende Bergwelt des Wallis zeigen.

Once again, I had the opportunity to photograph Air Zermatt’s regional supply flights. These missions are a vital part of Alpine logistics, reliably supplying mountain huts, construction sites, and remote locations by air. The result is a series of authentic photographs that capture the precision of the flights, the close cooperation among the crew, and the impressive mountain scenery of the Valais.

Helicopter Photo Contest

Manche Morgen sind einfach anders.
Zwei Fotos, die im Sommer 2025 während einer Rettungsaktion am Matterhorn innerhalb weniger Minuten nacheinander aufgenommen wurden, landeten schließlich in zwei verschiedenen Hubschrauber-Fotowettbewerben. Das eine belegte den 1. Platz, das andere den 3. Platz.
Beide Bilder wurden gegen 08:30 Uhr morgens aufgenommen, während ein Rettungsspezialist von Air Zermatt auf der Ostseite des Matterhorns abgeseilt wurde. Reale Bedingungen, realer Druck, keine zweiten Chancen.
Momente wie diese erinnern mich daran, warum ich es liebe, Hubschrauberoperationen in den Bergen zu fotografieren, wenn Präzision, Teamwork und Timing in einem einzigen Bild zusammenkommen.

Some mornings just hit different.
Two photos, taken within minutes of each other during a rescue mission at the Matterhorn in summer 2025, ended up placing in two different helicopter photography competitions. One took 1st place, the other 3rd.
Both images were captured around 08:30 in the morning while an Air Zermatt rescue specialist was being lowered on the east face of the Matterhorn. Real conditions, real pressure, no second chances.
Moments like this remind me why I love photographing helicopter operations in the mountains, when precision, teamwork and timing all come together in a single frame.

Als Fotograf hatte ich die einzigartige Gelegenheit, die PC-7 TEAM Staffel der Schweizer Luftwaffe über dem Matterhorn in Zermatt zu begleiten. Die Formation ist neben der Patrouille Suisse die zweite Kunstflugstaffel der Luftwaffe. Geflogen wird von Militärpiloten des Berufsfliegerkorps, die im regulären Dienst auf der F/A-18 Hornet im Einsatz stehen.
Die Aufnahmen zeigen die Präzision, Dynamik und Eleganz der PC-7 TEAM Piloten inmitten der hochalpinen Kulisse des Matterhorns ein seltenes und spektakuläres Zusammenspiel von Schweizer Aviatik und Bergwelt.

As a photographer, I had the unique opportunity to accompany the Swiss Air Force’s PC-7 TEAM squadron above the Matterhorn in Zermatt. Alongside the Patrouille Suisse, this formation is the Air Force’s second aerobatic squadron. The pilots are military pilots from the professional flying corps who are on regular duty flying the F/A-18 Hornet.
The photographs show the precision, dynamism and elegance of the PC-7 TEAM pilots against the high alpine backdrop of the Matterhorn – a rare and spectacular interplay between Swiss aviation and the mountain world.

Air Zermatt – Hochalpine Sommerrettungen: Präzision in der Luft

Ob hochalpin am Matterhorn, im Tal oder bei einem Verkehrsunfall,bei einer Sommerrettung mit der Air Zermatt-Crew weiß man nie, was einen erwartet. Pilot, Rettungssanitäter, Notarzt und Rettungsspezialist arbeiten im perfekten Zusammenspiel, auch bei wechselhaftem Wetter und wechselnden Winden in schwierigem Gelände.
Als Fotograf bin ich nah am Geschehen, halte aber immer Abstand zu sicherheitsrelevanten Zonen. Meine Aufgabe: den Einsatz dokumentieren, ohne den Ablauf zu stören, präzise, schnell und im Einklang mit dem Team.

Whether high up on the Matterhorn, in a valley meadow, or at the scene of a car accident, during a summer rescue with the Air Zermatt crew, you never know what the day will bring. Changing weather, shifting winds, and challenging terrain demand full focus from the pilot, paramedics, doctors, and rescue specialists.
As a photographer, I’m right there in the middle of it all, capturing every move, every detail, without interrupting the mission. Precision, teamwork, and technology at their finest.

In Zermatt sind Helikopter ein unverzichtbares Transportmittel – besonders für Baustellen. Da das Dorf autofrei ist und viele Baustellen schwer zugänglich liegen, werden Materialien effizient per Helikopter mit Unterlast angeliefert. Ob mitten im Dorf oder auf hochalpinen Baustellen im Gebirge: Die präzise und schnelle Versorgung aus der Luft spart Zeit, schont die Umwelt und ermöglicht Bauprojekte selbst unter extremen Bedingungen.

As the village is car-free and many construction sites are difficult to access, materials are delivered efficiently by helicopter with an underload. Whether in the middle of the village or on high alpine construction sites in the mountains: the precise and fast supply from the air saves time, protects the environment and makes construction projects possible even under extreme conditions.

Das Team arbeitet mit Präzision, jeder Handgriff sitzt.

As the rotor blades cut through the icy mountain air and snow clouds swirl around, you witness an impressive interplay of precision, courage, and technology. The team works with meticulous precision, every movement perfectly coordinated.
As a photographer, you suddenly become part of this dynamic while simultaneously observing the fascinating harmony between humans and machinery. Such moments not only deepen your respect for the mountains but also your appreciation for life and the people dedicated to saving it.

Die Durchführung einer nächtlichen Helikopterrettung in den Alpen ist äußerst anspruchsvoll. Diese Herausforderungen erfordern gut ausgebildete und erfahrene Hubschrauberpiloten, spezielle Ausrüstung und eine sorgfältige Koordination zwischen den Rettungsteams um Sicherheit und Missionserfolg zu gewährleisten.
